The History

In the Chimú culture from 800 AD to 1400 AD, Huanchaco had greater importance because the Chan Chan seat was located closer, just 4 km away. This can be seen in the iconography of waves, pelicans, etc., as it was their port of entry. During the Inca period, upon conquering the Chimú, Minchancaman was taken to Cusco to marry Tupac Yupanqui's sister. The war between the Chimú and the Incas lasted a decade. The Chimú had 15,000 soldiers and the Inca army had 150,000 soldiers. He may have reached an agreement and made an offering to marry Tupac Yupanqui's sister. In the 19th century, Huanchaco was a cove for indigenous fishermen who supplied the nobility of Trujillo. In the 20th century, in 1960, Huanchaco and its authorities—the mayor, parish priest, and commissioner—would thank official visitors with a lavish lunch consisting entirely of fish. In the 20th century, Huanchaco was one of the resorts along the Moche Route, where its typical fish and seafood dishes were prominent.
